Typography
For this assignment I decided to use the quote “I am a thousand winds that blow.” This quote is from a poem that was read at my aunt’s funeral so I thought that it would go along with the theme of my blog pretty well. Each of the words is represented in a different manner, whether it be a different font, color, or size. Starting with the beginning, “I”, is the letter that stands out the most in this image. I chose a script font to represent the elegance of the statement and of the person. It is also bold type because this person is making a concrete statement about how they are physically not around anymore but are represented through natural entities such as the wind. For the word “am” I chose a slightly darker color to make it blend into the background a little bit more. I also chose a decayed font for this word. Again, this is to reiterate the idea that this person is no longer living. I also chose this decayed font because I felt like it represented the living person’s view on their significant loss. In a way, as the “am” decays over time they will eventually come to terms that they cannot change what had happened and accept the fact that this person is gone. Now we come across the next line of “a thousand winds.” I represented this just as it says. I again used a script font to portray how wind flows. It is also in a lighter font because you are not supposed to see wind, only know that it’s there. The next word of the quote is “that.” I made this a bit smaller than the rest of the visible quote because it doesn’t have much effect on the quote. In a sense though it is a very simple word that is describing the one and only thing that this person is doing, which leads to the last word of this quote. The word “blow” is among the larger of the words in the image. It was only fitting because wind gusts can be extremely strong, emphasized by the size of the font. It is also in a darker color, which again emphasizes that you generally are not able to see the wind.
